Writing your first book could be a life-changing experience…right? Not if you’re making the biggest blunder out there.
You’ve finally put pen to paper…
You’re writing the book that you always thought that you had in you. And I know how exciting that feels. You’re feeling it all flow and you know that you’re going to write this great book.
And it’s that book that’s going to open up a world of new opportunities for you.
It’s going to create the path to the life that you want to lead.
…I’ve got some bad news for you…
It Doesn’t Happen That Way
When you’re writing your book, you’re probably daydreaming about all of these authors who made it big.
J.K. Rowling with her Harry Potter series.
E.L. James and the 50 Shades books.
Stephen King and…well…everything! King is an absolute machine of an author.
You think about all of these guys and imagine them as overnight successes. They wrote books that hit it big and you’re going to do the same.
But the bad news is that it doesn’t happen that way.
For every E.L. James, there are 5 million books by 5 million authors that nobody’s ever heard of.
For most new authors, writing a book isn’t going to become a big, life-changing event in their lives.
And that’s because they’re making the critical mistake that so many new authors make…
Not Starting With a Goal in Mind
Every new author needs to write with the end in mind.
You need to have a goal for your book that goes beyond some vague idea of making it big.
Let’s use J.K. Rowling as an example.
You may think that the first Harry Potter book came out of nowhere and made her a rich woman. But take a moment to think about the volumes and volumes of content in that series.
How much of that do you think she came up with after writing her first book?
I’m willing to bet that she had the entire series mapped out long before that first book got published.
So…what’s the goal for you with your book?
For a lot of new authors, the goal is to create a consistent stream of royalty income. Whether you’re writing fiction or non-fiction, the goal is to make a good living from your writing.
And there’s one key thing that you need to do to make that happen…
Get Consistent
J.K. Rowling has written close to a dozen books since the first Harry Potter. Stephen King has dozens more than that under his belt.
Both of these people realize that consistently creating content is the key to making the income that they want.
That’s what you need to recognize too.
You need to create volumes of content to create that consistent income. Now, that might mean writing an entire series of fiction books. Or, it might mean creating content around what you’re using the book to sell, such as courses or consulting.
The key is that you get consistent and keep creating.
Don’t make the mistake of putting all of your eggs into one book’s basket. Have an end goal in mind and keep creating content that pushes you towards that goal.
